We often get asked what is the best product for self-defense. A lot of people will just flat-out say I want a handgun. But for many reasons, the deadly force that a handgun offers for self-defense is too much. That is just not within the realm of thinking of many people, especially women.
<BR><BR>So they turn to a nonlethal alternative and there are many to choose from. Their purpose is to give you time to escape a potentially dangerous situation. They do this by disabling an assailant from anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes.
<BR><BR>The most popular of all self-defense products is pepper spray. It is on average 85% effective. It can be completely ineffective on a windy day if your assailant is more than three or 4 feet away. Pepper sprays have the advantage of being very inexpensive, small, easy to carry and conceal and some are disguised as other products like a lipstick container.
<BR><BR>They use the resin from a very hot pepper called the cayenne. That resin is called oleoresin capsicum and when it comes in contact with the skin causes severe pain. It also causes difficulty breathing, choking, and watering of the eyes so bad that the eyes may actually shut. The effects can last as long as 45 minutes.
<BR><BR>2. The instructions should show you the most effective places to apply the stun gun-nerve centers located above the hip, below the rib cage and upper part of the shoulder. That is for maximum effectiveness but anywhere you apply the stun device will work.
<BR><BR>3. All stun weapons have a safety switch. It must be in the on position for the weapon to work. This also prevents accidental discharge.
<BR><BR>That's a summary of the features of two of the most popular stun guns on the market today. They are both effective for female self-defense to improve their personal safety. I will let you decide which of them you think is a better value for self-defense.<BR><BR>5. All stun weapons have either a holster or a belt clip for easy carrying. Be prepared to use it at any time. Practice using it so that it becomes second nature to you. When the time comes to use it, you don't want to be fumbling around wondering where the safety switch is located.
<BR><BR>7. If you do need to use the stun device, hold it against him for 3 to 5 seconds or as long as you can. This will disable an assailant for 5 to 10 minutes allowing you time to escape a potentially dangerous situation.
<BR><BR>8. The electrical charge will not come back to you even if the assailant is grabbing you.
